About Bahamas

The Bahamas is a country that consists of over 700 different island, islets and cays; each provide beautiful scenery, warm water, and great fishing.  The Bahamas are located just north of Cuba and Hispaniola and just slightly southeast of Miami, Florida. Popular island destinations include the charming Marsh Harbour and resort-rich Paradise islands. The islands provide deep sea, fly, bone, and flats fishing; enough to satisfy any type of angler at any level.

Many species are plentiful off the coasts of these islands, including tuna, barracuda, marlin, sailfish, shark, snapper, wahoo, tarpon, bonefish, mahi-mahi, kingfish, grouper and so many others. The Andros flats consist of miles and miles of shallow waters where anglers can sight fish for tropical and smaller bait fish. The crystal clear blue waters offer a direct view of your catch. Bonefish are plentiful in the Andros flats, helping them earn the nickname of “The Bonefish Capital of The World”.

A general rule of thumb for deep sea fishermen in this area is, “the deeper the water, the bigger the fish.” In the Bahamas, you can be on top of the action in minutes. Off the coast there is a steep drop off; charter captains can put you in 1,000 feet of water in just a 15-minute ride from the dock. Just four miles from shore, depths reach 6,000 feet and plentiful with game fish. Waters tend to be quiet most of the year, and charter captains provide services to help new fishermen find the hot spots and navigate the waters.

Though the water is warm throughout the entire year, many of the big game fish tend to come out during the warmest months. Barracuda are plentiful throughout the entire year. Snapper, sharks and swordfish are mostly caught between March and September. Bonefish and wahoo can be caught from January to April.

It is ideal that you ask a charter captain to bring you out for this fishing experience since they are familiar with the waters and can navigate you to the best fishing locations for catching the specific fish you’re after. Because deep sea fishing is a main attraction of the islands, there are plenty of captains available for full-day, half-day, and specific species charters.

Bahamas is home to many stores, shops and attractions. The famous Atlantis resort is located on the main island of Nassau and in close proximity to many marinas and charter options. Some of the tiny islands are uninhabited and day trips for swimming, relaxing, and fishing provide your own personal paradise.

The Bahamas are a popular destination for cruise ships and tourists from the United States and Europe. The main city of Nassau is bustling with nightlife and lodging accommodations to fit any budget. Many of the resorts on Nassau and some of the “out islands”, as they are called, are geared specifically toward anglers and creating the ideal vacation for them.
