About Cancun

Cancun Mexico is one of the richest sailfish fisheries in the world. It wasn’t until the late 1990’s that this fishing gem was truly discovered and made aware to the public. Large schools of bait were discovered far north a popular fish spot spot known as Isla Contoy. Flocks of feeding birds mark the these huge schools of bait and intern identify where the location of the sailfish. Currently 20 sailfish a day is not unusual. Some fishing boats have caught close to a hundred sailfish in a single day of the waters of Cancun.

Besides sailfish Cancun is a great destination for other Billfish. White and blue marlin are caught ranging from 50 to 110 lbs for the whites and 100 to 800 lbs for the blues. Other pelagic fishing common to the are are wahoo, dorado, blackfin tuna, and mackerel. Big game fishing is the most popular option in Cancun but button fishing can be pretty spectacle as well. In about 200 to 600 feet on the bottom of the ocean we find grouper, snapper, and trigger fish. All great fighting and eating fish.

To answer the question what makes a great fishing charters versus and average fishing charter in Cancun can be narrowed down to a single element. You need a fishing charter boat that is willing to take you that extra 20, 30, or 40 miles to find where the fish are feeding that today. The boats burn additional fuel for these types of trips which increases their costs. A good fishing charter will have their clients best interest in mind and think nothing of it.
